A Family Tradition in Fine Jewelry
Harold & Dorthea Mason
Harold went to watchmaker's school right after serving his country in the 50s. He originally had to take a hand engraving course before he was allowed to take the watch repair course at Bradley University in Elgin, IL.
He originally had a small watch bench set up in the back of a hardware store of his father in law's in the suburbs of St. Louis, MO, Matese Hardware. He worked hard every day to save up $500 to come back to his hometown (Greencastle) with his wife Dorthea to open up their jewelry store. This was in 1957.
In 1982 Harold and Dorthea opened up their second store in Plainfield. The Greencastle store has been run for years by their son Steve Mason who retired in 2025 and is now run by his daughter Becky (Mason) Burris. The Plainfield store is run by Harold and Dorthea's youngest son Scott and their grandson Anthony Mason.
